Frequently Asked Questions
Electromagnetic radiation comes from the sun and is transmitted in waves or particles at different wavelengths and frequencies. This broad range of wavelengths is known as the electromagnetic (EM) spectrum. The spectrum is generally divided into seven regions in order of decreasing wavelength and increasing energy and frequency. Ultraviolet light (UV) is part of the electromagnetic spectrum of light, UV-C is found within the wavelength of 100-280 nm.
In the graph can be seen that germicidal action for UV-C is maximised at 265 nm with reductions on either side.
Philips Low pressure UV-C lamps have their main emission at 254 nm where the action on DNA is 85% of the peak value and 80% on the IES curve. As a result, our germicidal lamps are extremely effective in breaking down the DNA of micro-organisms which means that they cannot replicate and
cause disease.
UV-C is harmful and hence should be used with caution and appropriate health and safety practises.
HOWEVER, we provide direct and in-direct UV-C systems; each have their own benefits and applications.
- Direct UV-C lighting is very effective in controlled environments, following all specified health and safety guidelines and must not be used with people in the same room.
- In-direct UV-C lighting conceal the UV-C lamp to protect the users as well as allowing individuals to be in the same room when the unit is active. However, full health and safety guidelines must be followed.
UV-C – Human overexposure causes temporary skin redness and harsh eye irritation, but no permanent damage, skin cancer, or cataracts.
Yes,
A recent study from Signify, who own and supply the Philips UV-C lamps, have shown a reduction of the SARS-CoV-2 virus of 99% in 6 seconds. Based on the data, it was determined that a dose of 22mJ/cm2 will result in a reduction of 99.9999% in 25 seconds. See our evidence page for more details.
Germs, are simple organic structures that readily absorb the UV-C wavelength, causing photo-disassociation (destruction). A microbe’s DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is first to be adversely affected due to its weaker molecular bonds. In hundredths of a second it suffers irreparable damage. The subsequent loss of genetic instructions causes cell death and/or the inability to reproduce, rendering them harmless. Continuous exposure causes uninterrupted degradation, such as the sun does, only significantly faster.
UV-C is used worldwide and much of this broader use is for the disinfection of drinking water and treatment of sewage in wastewater treatment (see our evidence page for more information).
No. None of our UV-C systems produce ozone.
UV-C systems can be used SAFELY in several different settings including:
No, we do not charge to carry out onsite surveys.
However this is on the condition that we have received and gone through all the relevant project information via phone or email to ensure we meet your goals. Based upon this information, we will happily carry out a full site survey free of charge.
Yes it does purify the air in the entire space, but the number of units required depends on the room or building size. We provide a detailed survey which can include site specific information such as ventilation/air source/type, human traffic, dwell or high traffic areas and heating arrangements.
Firstly UV-C and air purification systems are recommended to be used as part of a disinfection strategy.
- Our systems give enhanced layers of protection which assure the property is clean, and virus protected
- Visible labels continuously promote the building is protected by UV-C and air purification
- This provides confidence and surety to both staff and customers that they are in a protected and safer environment.
- People can return to work safe in the knowledge their building has healthy indoor air
- Other benefits are reduced infection rates, reduced bacteria levels, reduced sickness levels and improved productivity through promotion of health and wellbeing.
No, but there is a noticeable no smell. Yes particularly with the plasma air system as it is a retrofit into your existing ac system, this cleans the air in the ducts circulating air through your buildings. The Luxibel and Airius systems kill airborne viruses, are cost effective and further reduce heating costs and reduce cleaning costs as employees do not have to scrub surfaces with chemical based products.
One of the main advantages of our systems is that they are very inexpensive to purchase and operate. Costs can be as little as £25 per week for purchase, installation, and maintenance. Power to run the systems range from £1.70-£3.82 per month (this is based on Average tariffs from December 2019 and if the systems were running 8hrs per day /5 days per week).
For further information on our finance packages please see here.
Yes, our entry systems come with a free-standing mount and a standard wall plug. We also offer a full installation service which we discuss and agree on when site survey is being carried out.
Most of our systems are held in stock and delivery can be within 48hrs. If a full installation is required, please allow 7-10 days. We also can carry out installations on evenings or weekends to suit operational needs of our clients.
Yes, it does. The time required to disinfect the air depends of course on the installed system but also on the airflow itself.
The answer depends on the effect you want to achieve. Most effective would be to disinfect after each time someone used the bathroom.
